FOR MOST of us buying or selling a residential property is one of the most important as well as challenging decisions of our lives.
Yet, until the time of reckoning is thrust on us, many of us are in any sense prepared; finance is one big issue but there are other complexities, say legal, procedural that make the consummation of a real estate decision by individuals so very painful.
Unlike buying a two-wheeler or even a car most of us resort to a property transaction just once in our lifetime.
That also means that our knowledge levels pertaining to property related matters are dangerously primitive, making us forever vulnerable to street-smart operators on the other side.
Unfortunately, the property business in this country has acquired certain odium, probably not justified in the more recent context of many of its leading lights trying to put their practices above board and also impart transparency.
However, as the preface to the book under review says the subject is highly mystified.
Most lay people would therefore welcome a book like this which with great lucidity takes the reader through the different stages in buying (or selling) a real estate. major plus point is its attempts to give the genuine brokers, real estate agents and others their due. It urges the reader to look for reliability and evaluate their reputation.
Again while giving comprehensive information on matters such as housing finance, it does not argue anyone's case but enables the buyer to take an objective decision.
Also, while legalese that are inherent in the property business cannot be done away with, they have been made as simple as possible.
Altogether a tremendous effort made available at an extremely attractive price. Has the potential to convert many fence-sitting readers into buyers of real estate.
